The night before the burial of her husband 2nd Lt. James Cathey of the United States Marine Corps, killed in Iraq, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of “Cat”, and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept.
“I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it” she said.
“I think that’s what he would have wanted”.
-Not sure what is more honorable: Being married to this faithful wife to the end or the Marine standing next to the casket watching over them both.(via chasingjabberjays)

BLACK MARCH
Thursday, March 1st 2012 to Saturday 31st March 2012With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of ‘piracy’ and ‘conspiracy’ the time has come to take a stand against music, film and media companies’ lobbyists.
The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts.
Their profit margins.March 2012 is the end of the 1st quarter in economic reports worldwide.
Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.
Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April: see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies’ profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes.
This action can give a statement of intent:”We will not tolerate the Media Industries’ lobbying for legistation which will censor the internet.”
Supernovadobe: This is honestly what I was already pondering doing myself on my own- apparently Hollywood and EA games are one of the biggest supporters for SOPA and Protect IP. SOPA may be shelved but it doesn’t mean other bills won’t get pushed through later. Funding things like censorship of the internet is in a way funding a lack of our own freedom. We can fight this peacefully with minimal damage through information exchanges like this and moving together as a whole with one goal in mind: to make these companies see that this is not the way to adapt to the new economical changes in our market.
Adapt another way, but not by limiting the freedom of the individual citizen, Hollywood and EA does not own the internet, because the internet is the force of everyone’s individual ideal, and therefore, they attempt to own something they cannot contain.
I’m not a HUGE gamer, and i’m frugal, so I don’t often see movies. My individual decision not to watch movies or buy games won’t have much impact, and I recognize that. However I also recognize that I have the internet, and I have the ability to communicate my wish to everyone to stand firm against the decisions being made by greed, and even if I don’t honestly spend much money to begin with- word of mouth travels further than any dollar I did not spend. Communication is honestly the most lucrative and damaging asset available to us these days.
That is the power of the internet. That is the power we all have available to us.
That is the power we all share here, the power to talk to each other. The power to combine what we say, in a single desire, aimed with strong willpower backing it. That’s something you cannot own.
With much love to everyone who wants to do this with me, I appreciate your voice being added to my own.

I think Bandcamp does this sort of thing?
MOSTLY, they take a small percentage for use of their site but it’s PALTRY compared to say iTunes or physical sales through major labels etc. i.e. they’re fantastic babbies and they get all my hugs.
Yes absolutely. If you’re a new artist, Bandcamp takes 15%. After you hit a certain total of $ in sales (ie you’re successful on Bandcamp), that becomes 10%. But the service they offer is the best I’ve seen for any music platform, even above established mainstream platforms like iTunes and Amazon.
Combine the stats that Bandcamp provides with a site like Bandalizer.com, and you have the single most useful thing that could ever be available for a musician.
tldr Bandcamp is fantastic babbies and deserve your love
I’m curious if anyone has any data on what kind of profits they make. The deal they offer is so fantastic for artists, compared to the average platform, that I wonder how well that works out for them financially - and if they’re well off enough, why more platforms don’t offer similar models.
never gonna stop reblogging bandcamp praise
as an side to the above reblog: in the past 30 days artists have made $1mil USD on bandcamp in total. that $125,000 (taking the average between 15% and 10% payoffs to them) for bandcamp. i believe that should cover the bandwidth and wages nicely :]
i’ll be damned if they don’t deserve every bit they get, though. amazing, amazing service that i hope continues to exist for a long goddamned time. when i see that somebody’s selling through bandcamp there are no second thoughts, just “excellent, this will be painless”
other platforms don’t offer this kind of service because they don’t get rich enough. “hey, this is profitable!” can go sour really quickly.

"Downloading music is the same thing I used to do: I used to record all the songs in tapes, the hits, the songs I liked from the radio. I don’t care. I hate seeing all those big rock stars complaining. At least they’re paying attention to your music, moron, and they’re paying attention to you, you know? You should appreciate that, fuck. Why are you complaining? You have 5 fucking big houses, so shut up”."
